Getting drunk on a Saturday afternoon! (Pssst... it wasn't me :p)

Hubby got drunk on a Saturday afternoon. On sake.

Haha. Yeah, last Saturday we had lunch at Sakae Sushi @ Wheelock Place again. This time, we asked for a seat at the cosy BBQ section cos we wanted to try the Sumiyaki, which essentially refers to items barbecued on Japanese charcoal to lock in flavours of the food. They've a set of a few nice BBQ items at a fixed price, but there are plenty of other items free for order on the menu.

Anyway, Hubby ordered a set and I ordered a premium bento, and we just picked off each other's food. Hubby also decided to be a bit more adventurous and ordered a 300ml bottle of sake. As I was supposed to stay off alcohol (orders from doc), he had to consume everything by himself, and ended up getting a bit whoozy and acted sort of silly (he can already be silly and funny on usual days, but it was even more entertaining that afternoon...haha). That silliness caused us to spend a lot of time (and $$$) at Sakae Sushi that day, as we just relaxed at the BBQ counter, watching the chef barbecue our stuff, eating dish after dish, and amusing ourselves with Hubby's funny antics and expressions. Hee.

Here's what the BBQ section looks like, with counter seats facing the chef as he takes orders and gets the food ready before the customers.

The culprit that made Hubby drunk that afternoon. The service staff was so considerate and even got Hubby a small tub of iced water to keep the sake cold. ;)

My premium bento! Unagi-- check! Agedashi tofu-- check! Chawanmushi-- check! Tempura prawns-- check! Miso soup-- check! That's why I was so happy to order this set -- it's got everything I love! Hee. And the next one's the sumiyaki set, consisting of grilled beef belly with tomato (Hubby loved this), grilled beef belly with Japanese rice cake, prawn with turkey bacon, Japanese green chiu filled with cod fish roe (this was nice -- very fragrant. Dunno what 'chiu' is though-- it tastes a little like green chilli and looks like a fat pea) and chicken wings (very very small wings, indeed :p).

As we continued to while our time away there, we ordered 2 more items -- scallop with turkey bacon and Japanese eggplants grilled with miso. The latter was kinda disappointing though -- the miso was simply thick and salty miso paste squeezed onto the grilled eggplants. I like both eggplants and miso, but combine them like that, and I'll stay away from both. :S

So that wraps up our latest food adventure! Hee.
