Reflection on passion

Learnt today that one of my recently graduated ex-students has been recruited into the Young Lions team and is pursuing a dream budding career in soccer, his passion.

Feel so happy and proud of him. :)

I only taught him in his graduating year, but quickly grew fond of him because he was such a sincere and kind-hearted boy who tried so hard whenever I showed support and encouragement to him. He wasn't a star student-- in fact, he barely made it for several subjects, but what touched me was how reciprocative he was towards others. If you treated him nicely, he made sure that he treated you the same way, even more. To other teachers, he might not have been the perfect student, or might even misbehave at times if he's in a lousy mood. But I guess he had a soft spot for me, and I for him, and no matter what, he always tried his best for me and obeyed my instructions.

So when I found out about how he made it to the team, something I knew he had always been longing for, I was really delighted.

I've met other teenage students like him before, so talented and bright in areas non-academic. But these students have 'heart' in them -- they know where their passion lies, and what they would like to achieve in their lives. They might not be the cream of the crop when it comes to studies, but I believe as long as they know where their hopes and dreams are, and pursue them with all their might, they will mature into worthy individuals and lead a fulfilling life.

This Young Lions new recruit, like many other teenagers with passion, has taught me a lot.

I wish him all the best. :)
